The CMMC pause gives prepared contractors a chance to pull ahead.

Mandatory third-party assessments have been temporarily suspended, but Level 2 self-assessments, SPRS submissions, annual affirmations, and underlying NIST SP 800-171 and DFARS obligations remain required.

The program may ultimately be simplified or better scaled to avoid driving capable small businesses from the Defense Industrial Base. Whatever the final requirements look like, contractors that keep doing the work—and can prove it through Conquer CMMC—will be best positioned when the government comes knocking.
